INDIAN HEALTH STATISTICS

India has witnessed annual growth of 5.44% in expenditure on public health from Rs. 150029.53 crore during 2016-17 to Rs. 158194.92 crore during 2017-18. The top 10 States/UTs with respect to expenditure on public health were Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala.

Public health expenditure in Uttar Pradesh was Rs. 18967.15 crore during 2017-18, down by -1.66% versus Rs. 19287.19 crore during 2016-17. We have seen annual growth of 16.13% in expenditure on public health in Maharashtra from Rs. 10527.18 crore during 2016-17 to Rs. 12225.08 crore during 2017-18. Annual growth of 9.04% has been observed in public health expenditure in Tamil Nadu to Rs. 9976.19 crore during 2017-18 against Rs. 9149.14 crore during 2016-17. Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu accounted for 11.99%, 7.73% and 6.31% respectively of the total public health expenditure in India during 2017-18.

We have observed annual de-growth of -15.68% in expenditure on public health in Rajasthan from Rs. 11639.82 crore during 2016-17 to Rs. 9814.34 crore during 2017-18. Public health expenditure in Gujarat was Rs. 8816.47 crore during 2017-18, up by 6.75% versus Rs. 8259.05 crore during 2016-17.

Public health expenditure in Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala was Rs. 8065.12, 7921.2, 7429.93, 7229.56 and 6882.47 crore respectively during 2017-18. The above mentioned top 10 states accounted for 61.52% of the total public health expenditure in India as a whole during 2017-18.
