CORONARY HEART DISEASE

Coronary artery disease (CAD) also known as ischemic heart disease (IHD). A common symptom is chest pain or discomfort which may travel into the shoulder, arm, back, neck, or jaw. Occasionally it may feel like heartburn. CAD is a disease in which a waxy substance called plaque builds up inside the coronary arteries. These arteries supply oxygen-rich blood to your heart muscle. When plaque builds up in the arteries, the condition is called atherosclerosis.

Symptoms:
  • chest pain
  • heaviness
  • tightness
  • burning
  • squeezing
  • pain in the arms or shoulders
  • shortness of breath
  • sweating
  • dizziness
  • women may also experience the above symptoms, but they have additional symptoms like:
  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • back pain
  • jaw pain
  • shortness of breath without feeling chest pain.
  • Risk factors :

    high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, lack of exercise, obesity, high blood cholesterol, poor diet, depression, and excessive alcohol. A number of tests may help with diagnoses : electrocardiogram, cardiac stress testing, coronary computed tomographic angiography, and coronary angiogram, among others. Prevention:
