HYPERTENSION:
Hypertension is defined as the persistent high blood pressure , clinically, when the systolic pressure remains elevated above 150 mmhg and diastolic pressure remains elevated 90 mmhg .It is considered as hypertension If there is an increase only in systolic pressure , It is called as systolic hypertension .
BLOOD PRESSURE:
Blood pressure is the lateral pressure excerted by the column of blood on the walls of the blood vessels , through which it flows
normal blood pressure is 120/80 mmHg.SYSTOLIC BLOOD PRESSURE:
Systolic blood pressure is the maximum pressure excerted during ventricular systole
Normal value of systolic pressure is 120mmHg
Range 100 to 140 mmHg
DIASTOLIC BLOOD PRESSURE :
Diastolic blood pressure is the minimum pressure excerted during ventricular diastole
Normal value is 80 mmHg
Range is 60 to 90 mmHg
TYPES OF HYPERTENSION :
CLASSIFICATION OF BLOOD PRESSURE RANGE FOR ADULTS:
BP CLASSIFICATIONNORMAL - SYSTOLIC BP :< 120 , DIASTOLIC BP : < 80
PREHYPERTENSION - SYSTOLIC BP :120-139 , DIASTOLIC BP : 80-89
STAGE 1 - SYSTOLIC BP : 140-159 , DIASTOLIC BP : 90-99
STAGE 2 - SYSTOLIC BP : > OR = 160 , DIASTOLIC BP : > OR = 100
CAUSES:
SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
Hypertension is often called as SILENT KILLER because it frequently asymptomatic until it has become severe
